Casey Anthony’s lead defense attorney, Andrea Lyon, went on national television yesterday expressing her doubts that a jury will clear her client.
Lyon, a death penalty expert said that, given the great publicity surrounding the Casey Anthony case, she was of the view that it would prevent her client from getting a fair trial.
Lyon appeared to stumble over her words and seemed to lack conviction when she said that Anthony did not commit the murder of her two-year-old child.

Nonetheless, Lyon insisted that she would continue to work at getting the death penalty off the table.
Orange County Circuit Judge Stan Strickland last month had denied the defense team’s motion to remove the death penalty.
Meanwhile, the Anthony defense team continues to offer no explanation as to why they believe their client is not guilty of the murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie. Instead, Lyon provided the same tepid response when asked the question, saying only, we “won’t find out until the trial why Casey is innocent.”
To date, the defense has produced no evidence to back up their assertion that Casey didn’t murder her daughter, although in the discovery phase, they are required to provide this information to the prosecution.
According to Bill Sheaffer, Legal Analyst of WFTV, the defense should quit whining. “The facts are what the facts are,” said Sheaffer. “A jury will render a verdict on the facts.” In Sheaffer’s view, it does not much matter where the case is tried. “Jurors are going to form their opinion based upon their view of that evidence,” he said.
Sheaffer said that the Anthony defense team keeps floating balloons and getting them popped.
Initially, Anthony had said that her daughter, Caylee, was kidnapped by a babysitter, although there has been no shred of evidence to support this claim.
Anthony is set to go on trial in a separate check fraud case on January 25th. Her first degree murder trial is likely to commence in Summer 2010.
If convicted, Anthony could face the death penalty.
