Nemours Children’s Hospital opened its doors today following a formal dedication ceremony earlier this month.
The 137-bed state-of-the art facility is located at the Medical City in Lake Nona and has been planned for several years.
It’s the third children’s hospital in the Central Florida area, but one with a difference – significant emphasis is being placed on innovative scientific research into life saving treatments for children’s diseases.
The 630,000 square foot children’s hospital with a price tag of nearly $400 million was planned with input from parents, children and caregivers, with the aim of ensuring that quality care, sensitive to the needs of children, is delivered.
Located in close proximity to the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, Burnham Institute of Medical Research and Orlando Veterans Affairs Medial Center, the Nemours Children’s Hospital expects to have some 850 employees, including researchers and scientists, by year-end.
