Why does it seem like every election year African Americans go to the polls and vote for the Lesser of Two Evils?
Perhaps President Barack Obama is the exception to the rule, but no candidates want to champion Black political issues, no candidate wants to embrace and cherish the “hood”, the ghetto or the barrio and no candidate wants to tell the truth when the candidate thinks a lie will get them elected.
No candidate wants to hire a lot of Blacks to do campaign work. If you love the political master and you want a job in the government, Blacks have to volunteer. Pay to modern day political puppets is like freedom was to some slaves, it was something to be gotten in the by and by, sometime in the future!
Every Democratic candidate wants a “union bug” on their signs and literature and in every election the union sign shops and print shops take Democratic money and the individual union members vote for whomever they want to, even Republicans.
There is no block vote in America stronger than the Black vote, so why shouldn’t candidates give Black businesses the same considerations that candidates give to unions?
You tell me, why shouldn’t all candidates have to advertise in Black-owned media and why can’t Black caterers and restaurants cater for the big receptions and political parties? We have printers and sign shops so why can’t Blacks get a little of those print opportunities too.
Now, you may not believe this but the type of candidate that is more likely to utilize Black political professionals is the older, conservative non-Democratic candidates.
The candidate that would hire or contract Blacks to provide political services is a candidate that wants to win and wants the best help regardless of age, race, party-affiliation or whatever.
Nowadays, if you raise $50,000 or $100,000 for a candidate, you can tell the candidate whom to hire. That is why a young college student can get a high paying campaign job and experienced Black professionals can’t even get a job interview.
I know you don’t like for me to say or write this but you have to understand that the candidate that does nothing for you and your community before an election, will do nothing for you after the election.
If no candidate will work with us and candidates only seek to see us two weeks before voting day, we have to go to the polls and vote against the candidate we feel
will work against our interests.
It could be Heckle or Jeckle, Twiddle Dum or Twiddle Dee or Bruce or Amy, we always seem like we are voting for the lesser of two evils.
