Two students, ages 16 and 14, were arrested for bringing a loaded, stolen gun to a Central Florida high school this month.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the two juveniles following the discovery of a loaded firearm on the campus of King High School in Tampa.
On November 15th, a teacher alerted an HCSO School Resource Deputy after witnessing a student pass a firearm to another student. When the deputy approached the individuals, they ran.
Deputies observed 16-year-old Kevin Reese discard the firearm before surrendering to law enforcement. Through investigative means, deputies learned the firearm was recently reported stolen in a burglary. The teacher identified 14-year-old Arthur Thompson as the student they saw hand the firearm to Reese.
Both students were arrested and face the following charges:
16-year-old Kevin Reese:
- Minor in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm on School Property
- Possession of a Stolen Firearm
- Resisting Arrest Without Violence
14-year-old Arthur Thompson:
- Minor in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm on School Property
- Possession of a Stolen Firearm
“The presence of any weapon on school grounds is deeply concerning and will not be tolerated,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our commitment to safeguarding students and staff across our schools remains steadfast. Those who bring weapons into places where they do not belong will be held accountable.”
This remains an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
