Votran supports SunRail with expanded shuttle service

121227_dt_focus01Due to an exceptional response to SunRail, Votran will add weekday shuttle service to the DeBary SunRail station from nearby Gemini Springs Park, 37 Dirksen Drive, DeBary, beginning Tuesday, May 6. Shuttle service from the Deltona Plaza was added May 5.

“The SunRail parking lot was at capacity at times again Monday, so we’ve added shuttle runs from the county’s Gemini Springs park,” said Liz Suchsland, Votran’s assistant manager. “People have been parking on vacant property across from the SunRail station which poses a safety problem with people walking across busy U.S. 17-92. Hopefully, the shuttle service from Gemini Springs and the runs from Deltona Plaza will accommodate the demand until SunRail revenue service begins when demand is expected to tail off.”

Both shuttles will run weekdays through May 16; buses will run nonstop every 30 minutes from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. The last shuttle will depart from DeBary Station at 6 p.m.

This temporary service will support the successful launch of the SunRail service until May 16. SunRail is a commuter rail system that does not operate on the weekend.

The parking lot at the DeBary SunRail station has been overflowing from early in the morning since May 1, the start of the free and temporary SunRail service and many riders haven’t realized that SunRail trains operate more frequently in the early morning and late afternoon rush hours. To assist with rider information and education Votran will have a customer service representative at the DeBary station throughout the day next week and will increase its outreach efforts in the form of additional rider information.

Votran riders are encouraged to visit www.votran.org and click the “subscribe” button at the bottom of the homepage to receive timely notices about future changes. The website also provides up-to-date alerts and real-time bus information. Gemini Springs and Deltona Plaza will not be held responsible for any damage to vehicles parked on their property.
