It’s tough to figure out what happened when the Miami Heat defeated the Orlando Magic 99-98 on Thanksgiving Eve. Dwayne Wade led the Heat in scoring with 24 points, but he only shot 6 of 22 from the field. If you told Magic fans yesterday that Wade was going to shoot less than 30% from the floor, I think they would assume the win. They probably should have.

Although the Orlando Magic shot poorly early in the game, they were able to overcome that to defeat the Charlotte Bobcats 97-91 and advance to 8-3. One of the slow starters was Rashard Lewis who missed the first Magic jump shot after returning from a ten game suspension. Also returning for the Magic were Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson who had both been receiving heavy minutes in a depleted Orlando lineup.

To christen the event, the Magic raised their 2008-2009 Eastern Conference Championship banner. For most fans, the last memories they have of the Magic are when the team lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals. The sting of the defeat seemed to resonate during Wednesday’s festivities.
