Jobless Claims in US Unexpectedly Rise to 471,000

The U.S. Labor Department said in a statement on Thursday that for the week ending May 15, initial unemployment claims were 471,000, an increase of 25,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 446,000. Analysts had projected initial jobless claims to be 440,000. So, the current figures are going in the wrong direction.
