Florida’s Unemployment Insurance Claims Spike
Florida’s initial jobless claims jumped to 21,975 for the week ending January 8, 2011, an increase of 55 percent, over the previous week’s figure of 14,139, the U.S. Labor Department said on Thursday. The state explained the spike this way: “Its the start of a new quarter of wage credits for benefit purposes, as well as layoff in the construction, trade, service, and manufacturing industries, and agriculture.”
