At a Washington D.C. candlelit vigil for fallen officers – 120 killed in the line of duty in the last year – Brevard County’s own Deputy Barbara Pill was honored among the deceased.

Reports Florida Today: A small pocket of green-and-white uniformed Brevard County sheriff’s deputies sat on law enforcement’s most hallowed ground Monday night, lost in a candle-lit sea of police from around the nation.

“We commit tonight to always remember the lives they led, the contributions they made, examples they set, just as tonight we recommit ourselves to the causes they served,” Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said.

Deputy Pill was shot multiple times in the face when she apprehended then 22-year-old Brandon Bradley and Andria Kercher, who was 19 at the time, during a traffic stop in March 2012.  The pair was suspected of stealing furniture from a near-by motel.

Deputy Pill, who died in the line of duty, had a distinguished 30-year career in law enforcement, including 15 years with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
