Sears, Kmart to Shutter Three Stores Locally

Three Sears and Kmart stores in Central Florida, out of a total of 100-120 stores nationwide, will close on a date to be decided, Sears Holdings announced in a press release.

The three stores Central Florida stores slated for closure are in Deland on International Speedway, New Smyrna Beach located at 1724 State Road 44 and in Orange City at 810 Saxon Boulevard.

Statewide, eleven Sears and Kmart stores will close.    The remaining stores are in Stuart, West Palm Beach, Port St. Lucie, Crystal River, Fernandina Beach, Callaway, St. Augustine and Pompano Beach.

A statement from Sears Holdings Corporation said that the 100-120 store closures are expected to generate $140 to $170 million of cash as the inventory is sold off.

The company also said that its focus will be on improving gross profit dollars through better inventory management and more targeted pricing and promotion.
