OCPS Students from Puerto Rico Get New Instruments

Yesterday, more students from Puerto Rico who now attend Orange County Public Schools after Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria are receiving brand new instrument, including trumpets, trombones, clarinets and flutes.

The Foundation for Orange County Public Schools assisted in securing the funding to purchase the instruments. Students who had to leave their instruments behind or may have lost them in the storm will now get that part of their life back. Universal Orlando Foundation and the Helios Foundation are the generous partners in education behind this project.

The school district received a $20,000 grant from the Universal Orlando Foundation that allowed officials to purchase brand-new musical instruments for 26 displaced students across three schools.

Applications are being accepted for a second grant that would provide instruments to additional students in need later this year.
