Surrounded by close to 60 volunteers, friends and family and standing in the outdoor garden at Singh’s Roti Shop on Old Winter Road, incumbent Commissioner Tiffany Moore Russell (District 6), first gave thanks to God for her overwhelming victory in Tuesday’s primary election. Moore Russell also said that her significant win over her opponents would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of hundreds of volunteers and the support she received from the small business community in her District.
When the final tally of votes was in, Moore Russell had commanded close to 62% or 5,976 of the 9,733 total votes cast compared with her closest opponent Mr. Bruce Antone, who managed to garner 26%.
Mr. David Rucker, the other opponent in the race, scooped up 13% or 1,232 votes.
While both Antone and Rucker, up until late last week, had suggested that little had changed in District 6 in the past four years, Moore Russell said that her victory also had to do with what she has been able to accomplish, in a mostly challenging environment, during her first term in office.
At the Candidates Forum held last Thursday, Moore Russell made reference to the Pine Hills Business Redevelopment Task Force and related committees, tasked with fashioning a vision and action plan for key commercial corridors in Pine Hills and in which she is fully engaged.  On that occasion, she also referenced her ongoing work with the Economic Development Commission and the Black Business Investment Fund (BBIF), which aim to create enterprise zones, utilizing incentives to attract new businesses into the area.
Moore Russell said she was looking forward over the next four years to continuing with the several programs already underway, aimed at revitalizing District 6, including bringing new jobs into the area and working with the Sheriff’s Office to further reduce crime and enhance public safety.
Moore Russell’s victory party was hosted at Singh’s Roti Shop, 5244 Old Winter Garden Road in Orlando.
