Joe Flacco who completed 22 of 33 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns lead the Baltimore Ravens past the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in Superbowl XLVII.

For the past two weeks most of the talk has been about Ray Lewis’ retirement and rightfully so, but Flacco showed that he’s not only the Ravens future but also an NFL elite QB.

All three of Joe’s touchdowns came in the first half but it was the second half where we learned how great the Ravens quarterback is. Flacco converted on multiple 3rd down conversions and showed a poise most questioned he had.

Following a 32 minute power outage, the San Francisco 49ers scored 17 unanswered points to make it a game.

49ers QB Kolin Capernick in only his 10th career start had a chance with a little under 2:00 minutes left to take the lead but the Ravens with stood all four offensive plays by the niners.

It was extremely fitting that the game came down to a defensive stand led by Lewis.

“I was sitting there thinking there’s no way we stop them here,” Flacco said. “But we did and that’s what our defense is all about. I don’t think there’s any better ending to a career than that: a goal-line stand by one of the greatest linebackers and one of the greatest players to ever play the game. That’s pretty special.”

I’m not one to say that there are “teams of destiny” but converting a 4th and 29 against the Chargers, beating Brady on the road down at halftime, and a Hail Mary to beat Peyton Manning in Denver, I’m going to call this a team of destiny.
