Curtis Reeves, the man accused of shooting and killing another man in a movie theater in Pasco County Monday, has been denied bail.

Circuit Judge Lynn Tepper denied bail to Reeves saying that, “the evidence of guilt is significant” and there is sufficient cause for a second-degree murder charge, tampabay.com reported.

Reeves’ attorney Richard Escobar called his client “a great man,” referring to his 20-year law enforcement career, the paper also reported.

“Certain circumstances will show that he is innocent,” Escobar said.

Reeves is accused of shooting and killing Chad Oulson, after the two got into an altercation in the movie theater over Oulson’s use of his cell phone.

Witnesses at the movie theater told investigators that Oulson had thrown a bag of popcorn at Reeves, who then pulled out a handgun and fired.

Oulson, who was at the theater with his wife Nichole, was shot in the chest. His wife, who placed a hand over her husband’s chest received an injury to her hand from the shot, police said.

Both Oulsons were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where Chad Oulson was pronounced dead.

About 25 patrons were about to watch the movie, Lone Survivor, when the shooting erupted.
