Hate Imus, Don’t Hate The Game

By Lucius Gantt

Now do you believe there is racism and hatred in  the media? The multi-millionaires that own the stations and networks that air radio and TV shows hosted by that broadcasting bigot Don Imus love racist commentary.

If the networks didn’t love racist broadcasters, they would have fired the beast broadcaster for saying on TV and radio that Black women that played basketball for Rutgers University were “nappy headed hos”.

Racist rhetoric is nothing new for Don Imus. He has a history of making hateful comments about Black people.

Imus talks racist talk but I wouldn’t waste my time picketing his job site.

I wouldn’t spend one minute telling my friends to stop doing important things to chastise Don Imus.

A New York picket line is not going to change Don Imus. A boycott of radio stations or advertisers is not going to eliminate racism.

Why hasn’t the Federal Communications Commission commented? Janet Jackson had an equipment malfunction and her career seems to have been irreparably altered. CBS Network was fined and perhaps some people got fired.

But apparently Don Imus made some comments on radio that he and his red-necked buddies make all the time.

We can’t pretend that racism is the exception to the rule. Racism continues to exist in America because white people are taught to be racist, or taught to be unbiased.

No child comes out of the womb hating other babies of different colors and cultures. They are taught to hate at home. They are taught to despise at school. And, they learn where to buy those clown-looking klan hats and how to make bombs on the internet.

I don?t like what Don Imus said. However, I have to respect his right to say it.

Where would we be as a people if Jesus Christ could not say what he said? What would your life be like if Malcolm X, Huey Newton, Angela Davis, Marcus Garvey or others could not say certain things?

I talk and write about a lot of devils and beasts but I seldom if ever discuss those words in connection to a specific race or ethnic group. Everybody or members of any race can be a devil if they behave in an evil, wicked or devilish manner. I use generalized adjectives to emphasize and explain situations that my people face. Imus uses similar words to spread hate and to incite bigots and bigotry.
We all should be very upset about what Don Imus said but we should be thankful for the society that allows us to speak without being told all that we can say.
Hate the racist, don’t hate the game!
