FDLE Identifies Person of Interest in Fatal Hit and Run

Thanks to a tip from an alert resident, troopers have in their possession the vehicle that killed an elderly Lake County man last Saturday.  A person of interest is also in FDLE’s sights.

Stephen Edward Toner, Sr., 68 of Mount Plymouth, lost his life on Saturday, December 11th, when he was struck by a hit and run driver in a Chevy pick-up truck.  Toner was walking his dog southbound on the east shoulder of Deal Road on the grass shoulder when the pick-up truck, traveling northbound left the roadway and struck Toner.

The driver of the pick-up backed up and then fled the scene.   Toner was taken to Waterman Hospital where he died of his injuries.

A tipster who identified the pick-up truck called in and troopers are currently processing the vehicle for evidence.  Troopers say they are confident that this is the vehicle that struck and killed Toner.

Troopers also have in their sights a person of interest connected to this fatal accident.
