Evans HS Finishes First at Elite Classic

Evans Boys Track Team completed competition at the Elite Invitational on Sat., Mar. 31 with nine first-place finishes, two season-bests, two state top performances and two Florida Relays qualifiers. 35 teams from the state of Florida competed at this years Elite Classic which featured the largest group of athletes in the history of this meet.

Chris Ward captured gold in the 400 meters with a time of 46.80 seconds. The senior previously set the nation-fastest time in the 400 meters, at 46.90 seconds, at the Bob Hayes Invitational to open the season. Ward also took first in the 100m with 10.95 seconds. The 100meters is the third different event in which Ward has posted an elite time for Florida.

The record books in the long jump continue to be rewritten, as Marquise Wesley posted a winning leap of 23′ 6″ his second, all-time best in the event and a new season best.

The other season-best came in the 800m run, in which Terry Charles clocked a time of 1:56.19 for a first place finish in the event. Peterson Joseph also ran a season best in the 800 meters clocking a time of 1:59.70.

The Evans Track Team finished first with 104 total points for first place for the Elite Classic at Showalter Field.
