With 11 sports teams in action last night, DP pulled off one of the most impressive feats of the year with all 11 teams coming home with a victory! Let’s start with arguably the biggest win of the day as Women’s Tennis (12-2) dealt previously undefeated Edgewater (17-1) their first loss of the season, 6-1, at Lake Cane. Sarah Baron (8-3), Maria Contreras (8-0) and Zoe Monge (8-3) put the Panthers in great position with victories in singles lines one through three. In line four, freshman Sara Veugeler picked up a victory (4-3) after her opponent suffered an injury and defaulted. In doubles action, Baron and Contreras notched an 8-3 victory and in line two, it was Monge and Veugeler with an 8-3 victory to lock up the match.

Men’s Tennis improved to 12-2 on the season with a 7-0 shutout over Edgewater (16-2). Peter SanPedro (8-2), Cooper Vissers (8-4), Izzy Almontaser (8-0), Ajay Govindaraj (8-3) and Marcelo Goncalves (8-4) swept through lines one through five singles and the doubles teams of San Pedro / Vissers (8-3) and Almontaser / Govindaraj (8-0) closed out the perfect match for the Panthers.

Senior Jack Orchard’s seven goals led a contingent of 13 different scorer sas top-ranked Men’s Water Polo (13-1) walloped host Edgewater, 26-8. Orchard scored the game’s first three goals and capped a 7-0 flurry with the final two scoresof the first quarter on a backhand whip and a perfectly executed wet shot into the left corner with 13 seconds remaining. Ian Perkins converted a long pass into a score and Bruno Ferreira picked up a steal and took it back for a score as thePanthers asserted themselves quickly and efficiently. Second quarter action saw DP increase the lead to 11-0 on goals by Charlie Barnett from the point, Reed Davis on a one-timer backhand, Jack Orchard at 5:37 and Ian Supra’s rocket into the right side. Edgewater went on to score five consecutive goals crossing over into the third quarter but Austin Sellers scored the first of his two third-quarter goals, a back handed bar-in, to stop the bleeding. DP went on to outscore the Eagles, 5-1, in the quarter on Orchard’s seventh goal, a pair of goals by left-handed freshman Andrew Sweet and a skip shot into the corner by senior Barrett Brinker. DP continued to roll in the fourth quarter with a 9-2 advantage and they accomplished it all with youth. Freshman Stephen Welch notched the first of his three goals with a back-hander into the left corner, Nate Hamner converted a long pass from Reed Davis into a goal and Welch capitalized again on a five meter penalty shot for a 20-7 lead. Sophomore Eduardo Macias went on a fourth quarter tear, scoring four of the last six goals, his career-high, while Welch converted his hat trick with a backhander at the 2:02 mark. Sophomore John Meisenheimer put his name in the score book with a dart into the left side with just 55 seconds left and the Panthers, with a perfect 4-0 record, inched one step closer to the Metro West Conference title.

Edgewater Women’s Water Polo only dressed out the minimum seven players for their game with fifth-ranked Dr. Phillips and simply did not have the personnel to keep up with DP’s wave of substitutions in the Panthers’ 25-1 victory over the Eagles. Freshman Jillian Goulden scored five goals and senior Rachel Dytrych scored four in the first quarter as the team broke the school record for goals in a game (24) set previously in 2008 vs. Ocoee. DP (10-4) had 11 different players score and put ten on the board in the first quarter alone.Dytrych scored the first goal with just 15 seconds off the clock and from there, DP scored at least one goal in every minute of first quarter play. Heather MacNeil sandwiched her two goals around Katie Heffernan’s score for a 4-0 lead with Dytrych, Shannon MacNeil and Allie Magrino pushing the lead to 7-0 at the 2:33 mark. Shannon MacNeil picked up her second goal and Rachel Dytrych added her final two of the night as the Panthers wrapped up the quarter with a 10-0 lead. In the second quarter, Jillian Goulden picked up three goals in just over three minutes while two goals by Maria Reyes and a solo score from Emily Kliewer increased the lead to 16-0 at the break. A quiet third quarter was interrupted by freshman Jacqueline James’ cross cage goal at 6:29 and Maria Reyes’ third of the night for an 18-0 lead after three quarters. In the fourth, DP got a great look at its class of 2015 as the entire field consisted of freshmen…and they played well beyond their years. Two goals by Jillian Goulden, two goals by Rikki Price and three goals by Megan Hallson, including the record-breaker with 25 seconds left inthe game, punctuated a strong performance by everyone. Goal keepers Marissa Goodrum and Jessica Robinson split time in net and combined for six saves.

Men’s Lacrosse went into their game at Apopka a bit thin in the ranks with four players out but had enough in the tank to take down the Darters, 11-6. DP (8-2) found themselves trailing at halftime for the first time this season (4-3) but came to life in the third quarter to outscore Apopka, 6-1, to pull away for good. Lucas Casas led the charge with five goals, Brett Forward scored twice and assisted on five goals, Ryan Totten picked up two goals and two assists and defense man Kevin Hoppey scored a goal and registered 13 groundballs. CraigJackson had another strong performance in goal with his second consecutive game with 25 saves. JV Lacrosse moved their record to 5-2 on the seasonwith a 7-3 victory over host Apopka. Jake Gillen’s three goals stopped the scoring column with Steven Weatherford (two goals), Mac Baxter(goal) and Connor Jackson (goal) rounding out the card. Jackson Noble picked up an assist for the Panthers.

Men’s Volleyball won their seventh consecutive match with a 25-12, 25-10, 25-14 vicory over host Freedom, their third straight sweep. Justin Soffer amassed nine kills, Logan Maladecki tallied seven kills and two aces and Hunter Heide closed out with six kills, five digs and an ace. Andrew Johnson was solid on defense again with four blocks. In JV Volleyball action, the Panthers(4-1) recorded their fourth consecutive shutout, 25-9, 25-22 over Freedom.

Baseball got back on track with their most thrilling victory of the season yesterday, 1-0 over visiting Oviedo in 11 innings. With the score deadlocked in a scoreless tie through ten innings, the Panthers manufactured the game-winning run starting with Billy Underwood at the plate. The senior second baseman battled back from an 1-2 count and ripped a single to left field. Jack Flaherty dropped a sacrifice bunt but the Oviedo pitcher threw the ball past first base into right field putting runners at second and third. After an intentional walk to Jalen Phillips loaded the bases, pinch hitter Ronnie Mitchell laced a one-out single down the left field line driving home Underwood for the game-winning run. As exciting a finish as it was, it wouldn’t have happened without the extraordinary pitching by the Panthers all game. Starter Mike Flaherty went five innings, scattering three hits and fanning three, Mitchell Rutherford struck out one in an inning of hitless work, Daniel Rodriguez fired the next four innings, striking out two while allowing no hits and Dylan Jones came on in the 11th, allowed no hits and struck out one to pick up the victory. DP pitching and defense allowed no hits over the last six innings of the game! Offensively, Billy Underwood finished 2-5 with a run, Jack Flaherty was 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base, while Ryan Larson, Walker Haymaker, Robbie Barrett and Ronnie Mitchell (RBI) picked up singles.

Flag Football rolled to their third straight win to open the season with a 40-12 victory over host Oak Ridge. Quarterback Hannah Schaible threw four touch down passes and ran for a fifth score while Ashley Vevera returned an interception for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass as well. DP (3-0) will head to Olympia tomorrow night at 6:00.

JV Softball exploded for17 runs as they closed out their season with a 17-7 victory over visiting Lake Highland. Megan Maladecki logged a triple and a double and drove in fiveruns and Brittany Kwarteng doubled in two runs for DP, who finished the season with a record of 6-5. Mariah Rodriguez singled twice and RebeccaSnyder and Morgan Wailes each drove in a run with an RBI single. Donna Ryan pitched three scoreless innings and drove in a run as well. After not fielding a junior varsity program in eight years, great job by our girls and coach Dominique Ryan on a strong season!

Men’s Basketball was represented twice by the Metro West Conference coaches for post-season honors: junior RaShawn Powell was named to the all-Metro West Conference team and senior center Zach Pindar was named the Academic All-Metro West Conference champion.
