Attorney Dan Newlin, of the Law Offices of Dan Newlin, well-known for serving and protecting his clients, took that commitment to a whole new level with the introduction of #Dan, an abbreviated dialing code which makes it easier for existing and potential clients to contact the law firm.

With an eye on building his brand and added value to the firm’s services, #Dan covers Central Florida, South Florida and the Greater Chicago area where Newlin has law offices.

“I knew the pound sign (#) could be used to designate a number and wanted to make it easier for persons in need of legal services to contact the Law Offices of Dan Newlin,” said Newlin. “So the idea of simply dialing #Dan rather than having to remember 10 numeric digits, was conceived.

“Of course, in the world of social media, it’s just as easy to remember Hashtag #Dan,” he added.

Over an 18-month period, Newlin said he engaged with the four major telecommunications companies – AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon – and eventually gained agreement to operationalize the personalized, one-of-a-kind technology. According to him, each carrier had to provision or program thousands of their cell sites before #Dan could be implemented.

Newlin plans to promote the ease of dialing #Dan to contact his law offices through a series of radio ads:

“I am attorney Dan Newlin. Involved in a car accident? Remember now, call #Dan.”

Although abbreviated dialing codes have only recently been used commercially for advertising, marketing and branding, the view is widely shared that, as technology grows, more companies will leverage these types of applications.

“I expect that the use of abbreviated dialing codes will become more prolific, as companies learn about the power of making it easier for customers to call them using a simple short code,” said a Senior Telecommunications Consultant at Datafish Consulting, serving the Orlando, Florida, market for the past 15 years. “This type of technology, it’s sticky, it’s catchy.”

Newlin, who stays on top of new ideas and technology in an increasingly wired world, agrees. He believes that, in the near future, aiming to reach a broader audience, there could well be hashtags like: #Kia, #Chevy or #DrSmith.

But, for Newlin, there’s no waiting. He’s out-front in embracing the new technologies that give him a major edge and differentiates his legal services from those of his competitors.
