Corrine Brown Done With Orlando, Running in Jacksonville’s New 5th District

corrinebrownfinalAfter losing her redistricting legal battle, Democratic Congresswoman Corrine Brown has announced her plans to run for re-election to Congress from Jacksonville’s new 5th District. Brown wanted Florida’s new congressional map invalidated to prevent her old district from changing drastically. A three judge panel rejected Brown’s redistricting argument.

“Although I am extremely disappointed in the Federal court’s decision earlier this week, I am declaring my candidacy for the newly drawn Congressional District Five of Florida,” Brown’s statement said. “And with respect to the redistricting lawsuit, I will continue to explore my options regarding a possible appeal, and am still reviewing the ruling with lead Attorney William Sheppard and his legal team in Jacksonville.”

“As I always have, I will fight to bring the federal dollars that the citizens of the 5th District send to Washington back to Florida. As a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I will continue to fight to enhance transportation and infrastructure funding and development not only for the state of Florida but for the nation.”

If Brown would have decided to run in Central Florida, it would have likely set up a major primary against Val Demings.

“I have a lot of unfinished business to address in Washington, and I look forward to providing a strong voice in Congress for the citizens in the new 5th Congressional District,” Brown said.
