Prompted by the 2008 death of two-year-old Caylee Anthony, the Senate on Thursday sent to the governor a bill that would increase penalties for lying to police when a child goes missing.

The measure, HB 37, would make it a third degree felony to give false information to a law enforcement officer in the event of a missing child.

The bill was introduced following the highly publicized trial of Caylee’s mother, Casey Anthony, who was acquitted of murder last July, but charged with lying to police.

She was sentenced to four years in prison for lying to law enforcement officers who went on a “wild goose” chase in search of the toddler. Anthony repeatedly told police that Caylee was missing, even though the toddler was already dead one month before.

Anthony was released last summer after time served.

The public will not see the video of Casey Anthony the day she learned a child’s remains were found less than a mile from her home.

According to Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland, “While the court is loathe to shield any public record, an argument can certainly be made that the contents of the video are highly inflammatory. ”

“Given the nature and scope of the pretrial publicity, it is not unreasonable to assume that many persons in the potential jury pool might view this video and develop a ‘hardened’ attitude in reference to the defendant’s guilt,” he wrote.

Orange County investigators are looking into a complaint filed by two St. Cloud women who say they were chased by George and Cindy Anthony after the women caught Cindy removing a cross from the former makeshift Caylee memorial site.

Lois Peter, 56, said she went to the site on Suburban Drive on Monday night with her 13-year-old granddaughter and two adult friends to leave a cross and see if anyone would take it.

The cross that they had placed earlier was gone, Peter said.

The group snapped a picture, and that is what appeared to have set off the chase, she said.

The Milsteads were in one truck and the Anthonys in another vehicle, and they chased Peter’s car around the neighborhood, boxing them in twice. Eventually, Peter said, they came up to a state trooper at Narcoossee Road and Lee Vista Boulevard.

Casey Anthony walked into the courtroom at 10:05am Thursday, wearing a long sleeve purple shirt and striped gray slacks. Her hair was down and she seemed very serious as her lawyers spoke.

Casey’s attorneys were in court to ask Judge Stan Strickland to keep the public from seeing a behind the scenes video from the jail as she watched WFTV news report that Caylee’s remains had been discovered on December 11.

Cindy and George Anthony along with their attorney Brad Conway were in attendance. Meter Reader Roy Kronk was also in the courtroom. Kronk is the man who reported seeing a suspicious bag in a wooded area, which eventually was identified as Caylee Anthony’s remains.

California bounty hunter Leonard Padilla says he told investigators that Lee Anthony told him a story that greatly conflicts with George Anthony’s statement about when he last saw Caylee alive.

George Anthony told investigators he last saw Caylee alive Monday, June 16 as she left with Casey, who he thought was going to work. It was the day after Father’s Day and the day after witnesses say Casey and Cindy had a terrible fight over money that Casey allegedly stole from Cindy’s mother.

Padilla, who had bonded Casey out of jail in the past, says George’s story is not true.

Larry King teased last night to George and Cindy Anthony’s appearance on his CNN show on Wednesday. “A lot of traffic on our blog about it,” King said. He asked viewers to take part in the conversation at CNN.com/LarryKing.

But the media performance of George and Cindy, Caylee’s grandparents and Casey’s parents, sustains the public’s interest, too. George and Cindy have done just about everything wrong in public-relations terms, says Ron Sachs. His Ron Sachs Communications in Tallahassee deals in crisis management.

“It’s as bad as it could get,” Sachs says of the way the grandparents have conducted themselves. “It’s a runway train off the tracks, and that usually has one outcome: disaster.”

George and Cindy Anthony’s granddaughter, 2-year-old Caylee is dead and their daughter, Tot Mom, Casey Anthony is charged with first degree murder and faces the death penalty.

The grandparents in an interview Wednesday have said that they support their daughter, Casey. But what choice do they have? They also said that Casey is a great mother and would never harm Caylee.

According to George Anthony, “I don’t think it’s possible for my daughter to hurt anyone. And she wouldn’t definitely hurt her own child. My gosh, I’ve seen the love every single day that she had for her. ”

Caylee’s remains were found close to the Anthony’s home in nearby woods, some six months after she disappeared.

Tot Mom has said that Caylee was kidnapped by a nanny and has pleaded not guilty.

Cindy Anthony said, “I think the truth will come out at trial.”

Tot Mom’s trial is set for October, although that might be delayed in view of the prosecutors decision to seek the death penalty.

Roy Kronk’s attorney has filed a protective order this week calling the defense’s request for his clients cell records harassing and an invasion of his privacy.
