Woman dies after being pulled from submerged Car
Just before 9:00 a.m., on February 15th, the Orange County Fire Communications Center received multiple calls advising a vehicle crossed over State Road 417 at Lee Vista and crashed into a retention pond. As soon as Orange County Fire Units arrived on scene, firefighters immediately entered the frigid water. Using surface water rescue gear, they made repeated attempts to locate the vehicle and its occupants. The deep and murky water conditions hindered the rescue and the dive team from the City of Orlando Fire Department was requested to assist.
Mayor Dyer appoints new Fire Chief
Today, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced the medical retirement of Fire Chief Jim Reynolds after 25 years of service at the City of Orlando. Mayor Dyer has appointed John Miller, a 22-year OFD fire veteran to succeed Reynolds as the new Chief of the Orlando Fire Department.
Citizens to be recognized for Crime Prevention efforts
Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orlando City Commissioners and Orlando Police Department Chief Val B. Demings, will recognize the dedicated efforts of Neighborhood Watch Block Captains on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Harry P. Leu Gardens. The event will take place from 11:00am – 1:00pm. This is the 25th year that Orlando has recognized the role citizens play in crime prevention. Neighborhood Watch Block Captains represent approximately 750 streets and 30,000 homes. Concerned Orlando residents worked with the Orlando Police Departments Neighborhood Watch Staff and Community Liaison officers to create 110 new watch areas during 2009.
What’s Ahead for Mayor Buddy Dyer?
Among other activities, Orlando’s Mayor Buddy Dyer will deliver the 2010 State of the City Address at City Hall on Thursday, February 18th. The annual address allows Mayor Dyer to share the City’s current and future plans with Orlando residents.
