Disney Selects 100 High School Students to Dream
Walt Disney World Resort, in partnership with nationally syndicated radio personality Steve Harvey, announced its selection of 100 nationwide high school students to participate in the Disney’s Dreamers Academy of 2010. Selected students and a guardian will be given unprecedented access to the magic behind Walt Disney World Resort. As part of their experience this group of dreamers will participate in interactive workshops focusing on a variety of subjects including Walt Disney Imagineering techniques, entertainment, the business of sports, culinary arts, and more.
Florida League Engages the “People’s Lobbyist”
The League of Women Voters of Florida today announced they’ve retained the well-known and widely respected Ben Wilcox as the League’s new lobbyist in Tallahassee. Known as the “People’s Lobbyist” by many close observers of the Florida Capitol, Wilcox has formerly been executive Director for Common Cause Florida, where he remains as Board Chair, and spent years as the News Director for Florida State University Public Radio.

NASA Astronaut Headed to ‘The Swamp’
Life long Gators fan and NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough will be in Gainesville for two days spreading NASA’s message about the importance of space research and exploration. Kimbrough will present a jersey flown on STS-126 Endeavor to the University of Florida Nov. 28 during the University of Florida versus Florida State football game scheduled at 3:30 p.m. at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field. Fans will have a chance to meet Kimbrough and get autographs before the game from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Gator FanFest located outside Gate 2 of the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
Majority of Floridians Concerned About Finances
A new poll has found that more than 83 percent of Floridians are very concerned about their finances and 43 percent do not anticipate that they would be better off in the next 12 months. These are the findings of a poll released by a broad coalition of insurance, banking and consumer interests.

Sheriff Demings Issues Stern Warning To Criminals
On Wednesday, November 18th, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings surrounded by some nine area police chiefs and representatives from local security concerns, kicked off Operation Safe Holidays 2009. Sheriff Demings, speaking on behalf of the law enforcement agencies present, put criminals on notice for the holidays and warned that specific and enhanced measures were being put in place to reduce crime.
