The Cost of Freedom

The Cost of Freedom

Normandy Beach, June 6th 1944. The largest amphibian invasion in history stood poised on the horizon. 6,900 vessels dotted the sea and were all focused on the French Beaches. The American fighting force averaged 18-24 years old and came from small and large towns across America. They were sons, husbands, fathers…farmers. These young men grew together despite their immense differences. They learned to accept the fear that they felt, the risk they faced and fully embraced the duty of which they willingly served.

The Perfect Meal–21 Years in the Making

The Perfect Meal–21 Years in the Making

Perfection is attained by slow degrees; it requires the hands of time. Voltaire I have to admit that I lack the inherent ability to discern a meal that is partially perfect from a meal that is actually “perfect.”  I also cannot appreciate the difference between an $8 bottle of Merlot and a much more expensive more »

Running From Within

Running From Within

On March 30th 1968 a bright red colt was born to parents literally chosen by the toss of a coin. The colt was born to Somethingroyal, and stallion, Bold Ruler. Bold Ruler was considered one of the most significant stallions of his time. He was known to have both the speed to be a frontrunner, and the stamina to run 1 1/4 mile tracks.

ISLAMOPHOBIA AND A PEACEFUL WORLD

ISLAMOPHOBIA AND A PEACEFUL WORLD

There will come a day when the United States is no longer in Iraq, no longer in Afghanistan and no longer trying to discern how we can best comply to avoid retribution on our own soil. When that day comes, will there be peace in Iraq, Iran or Afghanistan? I sure hope that for the sake of the actual tolerant and forgiving Muslim people, which are the majority, that the finger pointing divisive others will remember that the battles of your long and glorious history were not always because of the US and Israel, and not always because of the burning of Qurans.

The Death of Common Sense

The Death of Common Sense

Nearly one decade to the day, September 10th 2001, America was a different place than today. Perhaps naïve, perhaps too trusting, perhaps too involved in the freedom of others. However, history will never reflect that America was focused on attacking others in the name of religion. America was attacked on September 11th 2001, not by Muslims, not by followers of Islam, not by the Qur’an, but by 19 terrorists who harbored a deep-seated hatred for the American ideal.

Deja Vu All Over Again–From Saigon to Iraq

Deja Vu All Over Again–From Saigon to Iraq

2008, President Barack Obama was elected, among other campaign promises, to bring U.S. combat troops home from Iraq within 16 months. President Obama said, “The best way to press Iraq’s leaders to take responsibility for their future is to make it clear that we are leaving.” Obama pledged to, “seek a new accord on Iraq’s Constitution and governance.”

A Peaceful Iran, A Democratic Iraq and Other Misnomers

Today we stand upon the ledge of a nuclear precipice. In less than one week, the much-discussed Bushehr plant will become a full-fledged nuclear energy installation. Although Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has consistently declared that the Bushehr plant will be used to generate, “peaceful atomic energy for the people of Iran,” his inconsistencies are nothing new.

Following Democracy Down the Rabbit Hole (Video)

The arguments regarding the cultural center being planned near ground zero, are seemingly becoming as convoluted as Alice’s trip down the rabbit hole. The initial response is emotional and perhaps a well-deserved guttural expression of grief, fear and disbelief that still remains regarding the tragic attacks of September 11th, 2001.

Is Wikileaks the New Abolitionist? (Video)

Wikileaks, a web based international watchdog group is preparing to release more than 15,000 classified military documents related to the war in Afghanistan. This, following more than 70,000 reports released last month. Wikileaks has claimed that it delayed the release of the latest reports, as part of a “harm-minimization process,” in an effort to redact any information that they felt was objectionable.

The Critical Condition of Florida’s Healthcare

The Critical Condition of Florida’s Healthcare

Everyday we hear news about changes in healthcare, but we rarely give a second thought as to how it could affect us. Providing medical care is a business. As much as we would like to believe that the delivery of medical care is somehow above other business models, the reality is that if medical providers are not profitable, they cannot remain in business.
