“For Colored Girls” like “Beloved” was Best Left to the Readers Imagination

“For Colored Girls” like “Beloved” was Best Left to the Readers Imagination

Amazing, Brilliant, Inspiring, Magnificent, and Powerful, are the adjectives being used to describe the movie For Colored Girls; Tyler Perry’s adaptation of the 1974 collection of poems by Ntozake Shange originally titled For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/ When the Rainbow is Enuf. I have tried my best to see the sunshine (and the [...]

If Cash is King…Then Why Is Credit Card Industry Reigning Supreme?

What happened to the phrase…”Cash is King?” Or, our family should wait to make that big purchase of a car or major appliance (or any other big ticket item) when we have saved enough “cash” to make that purchase. Or better yet…the beauty of lay-a-way (not rent-to-own.) What’s wrong with making weekly or monthly installment [...]

VOTE TODAY: RIGHT AND REPRESENTATION

VOTE TODAY: RIGHT AND REPRESENTATION

I hope you have voted, or will before the day is over. I will be honest in saying that I hope you vote the same way I did, but I’d settle for you having your voice heard, even if you don’t or didn’t.

Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis

On Saturday December 18, the Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run/Walk will once again jingle its way through Baldwin Park and once again, the runners with the pink t-shirts and Santa hats will be back in force. An Anole’s Legacy

An Anole’s Legacy

Last week, my sister shared the news with me that Evan had some type of head injury resulting in a concussion, and that it was quite serious. He apparently fell, and doesn’t remember anything. It got me thinking hard about my brother, though. I suspect that if something were to happen to me, he is the one sibling who would not attend my funeral.

What’s in your Wallet?

What’s in your Wallet?

Okay, many people do it, but not too many like to admit it but we’re all family here so I’m just going to ask: have any of you ever played the lottery? Come on, you can be honest because this is just between you, me, and the hundreds of thousands of people who are reading [...]
