AAA: More Floridians Traveling this Labor Day Weekend

LaborDayTravelAbout 1.7 million Floridians are expected to travel during the Labor Day holiday week-end, an increase of 2.4 percent over 2013, AAA Travel announced Thursday. Most Floridians – 1.5 million or 88 percent will travel by road, taking that final road trip before summer comes to a close.

The Labor Day holiday travel period is defined as Thursday, August 28 to Monday, September 1.

Nationwide, AAA Travel projects 34.7 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the holiday week-end.  That’s the highest volume for the holiday since 2008 and a 1.3% increase over 2013.

Across the country, automobile travel will increase rising by 1.4 percent this year, with 29.7 million travelers hitting the road.

Despite stagnant income growth, AAA Travel says consumer spending continues to rise, with third quarter spending projected to increase 3.8 percent year-over-year. Consumers are relying on credit cards, rather than increasing income.

Most U.S. consumers are paying the lowest gas prices for early August since 2010; gas prices are not expected to impact the number of people traveling for Labor Day, AAA Travel said.
