Ask the Heart!
Prior to yesterday, I had never heard of Junior Seau. Please accept my advance apologies if I offended any football fanatic, but I stopped being a sports enthusiast following the dastardly departure of the Colts from Baltimore to Indianapolis.
Athletically, I learned that Mr. Seau had the prerequisite to perform brilliantly on the football field. Undoubtedly, to sustain that level of masterful performance, he had to practice.
My disappointment, however, is that he did not practice enough where it really truly mattered the most–in the heart.
Who amongst us hasn’t suffered, figuratively, from some heart murmur—some topsy-turvy outcome, some bruised feelings, some scary fears, some gigantic adversities, some unexplained setback?
We all have, Junior!
So since I can’t make a difference in his finality, allow me to make a difference in yours.
The “heart” of the matter is this—-the road to happiness is to practice putting a dose of positivity into your “heart.”
To get some perspective, I wished that Mr. Seau could have had a heart-to-heart jam session with Christopher. I am convinced that he would have “walked” away with a ray of hope.
I believe that Christopher Reeve would have convinced Junior that in spite of his spinal cord paralysis, Christopher would still meet each sunrise with “heart-felt” positives. These affirmations, not only gave him the strength to endure endless grueling rehabilitation regiments, but supplied him with the courage to believe that someday he would walk again!
What makes Junior Seau’s suicide so inexplicable is that he proved for over two decades that he had the grid-iron guts and tenacity to succeed in football arenas and in the “hearts” of fans world-wide. Too bad he forgot to transfer that same endurance and fortitude to where it really truly mattered the most—to his heart!
Football is raw and so is life—-just ask the heart!
