Family of Teen Fatally Shot Searches for Answers
A teen visiting family members in Sanford was fatally shot by a neighborhood watch member, and now his family wants answers.
According to news reports, a lawsuit will be filed Thursday, in an effort to get answers as to how 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, a black teen, died.
Martin, who was visiting his father and stepmother, was fatally shot late last month, during an encounter with George Zimmerman, 25, a white male, at The Retreat at Twin Lakes Townhomes in Sanford.
Martin had gone to the store and upon his return was met by an armed Zimmerman, functioning in the role of neighborhood watch member.
Since Martin’s shooting on February 26, no details have been released on the investigation.
On Thursday, a spokesperson for the Sanford Police Department, Lieutenant Jim Mcauliffe said, “the investigation is ongoing.”
No one has yet been charged with a crime.
