Ronald Blocker is Florida’s Superintendent of the Year
Mr. Ronald Blocker, Superintendent of Schools for the Orange County School District, was chosen as Florida’s Superintendent of the Year for 2011. His selection was announced on December 1, 2010 at a joint meeting of the Florida School Boards Association and the Florida Association of District School Superintendents in Tampa.
“Ron Blocker is a true educational leader and is very deserving of this recognition,” said Bill Montford, Chief Executive Officer of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents. “He is highly respected by educators throughout Florida and across the nation. He will represent all superintendents in Florida with professionalism and dignity. This recognition is one way to recognize his dedication, hard work and quality service to public education in Florida.”
Superintendent Blocker has led the Orange County School District since July 2000. Under his leadership OCPS has been an “A” district for three successive years. Mr. Blocker was recently named the 2010 Reading Leader of the Year by Just Read, Florida! Because of his influence in the community, he was ranked #2 by Orlando Magazine on their list of “50 Most Powerful People in Central Florida,” published in July 2009; and as among the top 20 most powerful people in Central Florida by an Orlando Sentinel panel of community leaders in January 2010. In 2009, he was also chosen by the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission to receive its prestigious Chairman’s Award acknowledging his contribution to the economic success of the region.
Superintendent Blocker is the President-elect of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents and a member of the American Association of School Administrators, Florida Association of School Administrators and the Council of Great City Schools.
The process for selecting Florida’s Superintendent of the Year was established by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), a national organization of school superintendents and other educational leaders. In February 2011, Superintendent Blocker will be recognized and honored for being the Florida representative of high quality superintendents by AASA at their National Education Conference in Denver, Colorado.
