The Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced today that Predatory Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) flights will begin out of Corpus Christi, Texas, beginning on Wednesday, September 1. With the deployment of an UAS in Texas, DHS unmanned aerial capabilities will now cover the Southwest Border—from the El Centro Sector in California all the way to the Gulf of Mexico in Texas—providing critical aerial surveillance assistance to personnel on the ground.

Hurricane Earl Heads toward Puerto Rico, USVI

According to the National Hurricane Center, the center of Earl will pass near or over the northernmost part of the U.S. Virgin Islands this afternoon and evening. Hurricane conditions will be spreading across the northern U.S. Virgin Islands during the next few hours and over portions of Puerto Rico this afternoon. Rainfall is expected to produce total accumulations of 4 to 8 inches with possible isolated maximum amounts of 12 inches. These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.
