No.1 Tennis Star Serena Williams Fined $82,500

The world’s number one tennis star, Serena Williams was fined $82,500 and given two years probation for her foul-mouth tirade at the US Open last September, the Grand Slam Committee said today. The Committee also said that if Williams should have another major offense at a grand slam in the next two years, she would be suspended from the US open in 2010, 2011 or 2012.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury and Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today kick off a nationwide campaign to help borrowers who are currently in the trial phase of their modified mortgages under the Obama Administration’s Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) convert to permanent modifications.

Magic and Fox Sports Team Up for On-Air Auction

The Orlando Magic and FOX Sports Florida are teaming for an inaugural on-air television auction benefiting the Orlando Magic Youth Fund, a fund of the McCormick Foundation, during the Dec. 2 game against the New York Knicks. Auction items will be available for viewing on OrlandoMagic.com and FOXSportsFlorida.com and will also be highlighted throughout the night’s telecast, which begins at 6:00 p.m. with the “Magic LIVE” pregame show. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Orlando Magic Youth Fund.

Tiger Pulls Out of His Own Golf Tourney

Tiger Woods will be a no show at his own tournament later this week because of the injuries that he sustained when he crashed his car into a hydrant and then a tree, early Friday morning. The world’s number one golfer was scheduled to play in the Chevron World Challenge golf tournament in Thousand Oaks, California, beginning on Thursday.

Obama Issues Proclamation for World AIDS Day

President Obama issued a proclamation for World AIDS Day, on December 1st. The President’s proclamation noted that there are more than one million persons estimated to be living with AIDS in the United States and that every nine-and-a half minutes, someone is infected with the virus.

Party Crashers to Testify at House Review of Security Breach

The Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced Monday that he intends to hold committee hearings on December 3rd, on the breach of security at the White House State Dinner last Tuesday and the party crashers, Mr. and Mrs. Salahi will be called to testify.
