Black Skin Kids Not Welcome

Sixty children from the Creative Steps Day Camp in Northeast Philadelphia got the shock of their lives when they were turned away from The Valley Swim Club in Philadelphia, even though they had paid more than $1,900 to use the pool.

The Valley Swim Club, a private swim club, which advertises open membership had collected in excess of $1,900 from the Creative Steps Day Camp for the use of their pool.

However, when the black kids from the Day Camp showed up and got into the pool, all the white children immediately got out.   Pool attendants asked the minority children to leave, saying that they were not allowed in the pool.

The following day, John Duesler, President of the Valley Swim Club said in a statement that, “There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion…and the atmosphere of the club”.

Duesler was probably being brutally honest in his explanation, but it appears to smack of racism, which if so, would be a big deal.

The management of Creative Steps Day Camp is exploring other options for the kids over the summer
