Plaza Cinema Opens Friday

The long awaited, 12-screen downtown Plaza Cinema Cafe opens on Orange Avenue today, Friday. The first showings were scheduled for 11:30 am. The movies playing include a mix of first-run films, such as Star Trek and Angels & Demons, along with some older titles.

Abu Ghraib photos show abuse, torture, rape

These photos contain graphic and disturbing images. *Warning* Recent Abu Ghraib photos show torture and abuse and at least one picture shows an American soldier raping a female prisoner while another is said to show a male translator raping a male detainee. Further photographs are said to depict sexual assaults on prisoners with objects including a truncheon, wire and a phosphorescent tube. They are among some 2,000 images President Barack Obama is trying to prevent being released.

“Kidnapped” Woman, Daughter found at Disney World

A Philadelphia woman, Bonnie Sweeten, who faked her own kidnapping and that of her daughter, is in an Orange County jail. Sweeten told police that she and her young daughter had been abducted by two black men and stuffed into a car. Sweeten had in fact boarded a flight with her daughter and was found at Disney World.
